7 New Free PrestaShop Modules

We are happy to announce that we have added 7 new free modules to our PrestaShop module offering. The modules we added were previously paid modules, but now we have made them available for free for all of our users. Now all the modules we offer are free, making us the largest maker of free modules for PrestaShop.

This means most merchants will be able to add new features to their shop and make their shop administration easier. Some of our module like the PrestaShop editor will make it where you can edit files easily, the product notes module allows you to add notes to specific products, and the ShieldSquare module allows you to protect your site from bots and scrapers.  Now, lets get on to the modules and tell you all about them.

PrestaShop Editor

The PrestaShop Editor module is one of those modules that has features that should be included in the core of PrestaShop. But because of lack of caring or programming ability they are not, while other major platforms include this feature. The PrestaShop Editor module allows you to edit your template files directly from the back office without having to FTP into your site. So if you need to make a little change or add a code snippet, you can easily add it from the back office now. The module even features a syntax highlighter so that you can tell if there is an error in your code.

Product Notes Module

This module is a handy administrative module that allows you to add notes to the products in your shop. The module allows you to add notes that only administrators can see to the products. Some of the popular uses for the module are to add the supplier details, specifications of the products, or other information you might need while selling the products.

Flex Layout Module

This module is geared more towards developers, but it is one of the most powerful front office modules ever created for PrestaShop. What it does is it gives you the ability to have custom templates on a per page basis. What this means is if you want to have a different layout for a specific products page you can. Or a specific layout for different categories you can. This is extremely helpful in showing more information or providing custom pages that look better in your design for specific pages.

This module does not come with any template files. You will have to write your own custom templates files to use with this module. The module is geared mainly for developers or merchants that know their way around templates files and how to create custom ones. Using your base template files are an easy way to get started, then editing them for use with the module.

Google Analytics Optimized

This module is an optimized version of the Google Analytics module that comes with PrestaShop. What the purpose of this module is, is to increase the PagesSpeed score of your site. The module effectively hides the Google Analytics tracking javascript files from Google. This means that Google will not decrease your PageSpeed score for using Google Analytics ans will in turn increase your PageSped and help the SEO since speed is a ranking factor now.

Facebook Speed Optimized

This module works very similar to the Google Analytics speed optimized module. It hides your Facebook block from Google PageSpeed so that the script is not loaded load for Google. This means that your PageSpeed score is not affected by using this module, unlike the standard module that is distributed with PrestaShop.

Algolia Search Module

This module is a powerful module based off the Algolia search service. This module requires that you have an account with Algolia to use the module. This is not a module to install on a production shop. You will need to thoroughly test this module on a development shop before you use it in production. The templating language that we used in the module is different than the standard language that PrestaShop uses, we use Twig for this module.

This module can be one of the most powerful search modules because of its speed, it can return results in mere milliseconds as compared to the several seconds it takes your PrestaShop site. It also provides excellent filtering as well using the Algolia facets. The module does come with themes for the default template, Warehouse, and Transformer.

ShieldSquare Module

ShieldSquare is a service that is used to protect your site against bots, scrapers and other type of unwanted interaction. We originally developed this module for a client whose site was being scraped by pricing bots and bots stealing his product descriptions. Once we saw how valuable the service was, we developed it out into a module that we could sell / distribute. This module does require you to use the ShieldSquare service for it to work.
